In coatings, calcium carbonate serves as a white pigment, acting as a skeleton; in the paint industry, it can be used as an extender pigment. The addition of calcium carbonate enhances the primer's deposition and penetration on the substrate surface. Meanwhile, heavy calcium carbonate (heavy calcium powder, heavy calcium) is the main filler in putty. In thick paint, calcium carbonate can thicken and add bulk to the coating, serving as a filling and leveling agent. Therefore, heavy calcium carbonate and light calcium carbonate are commonly added to thick paint, with heavy calcium carbonate (heavy calcium powder, heavy calcium) content ranging from 24.6% to 78.5%. In topcoat, specifically the finish coat, semi-gloss and matte paints require the addition of extender pigments to reduce gloss, and calcium carbonate is an ideal matting filler.
